Naturals Ice cream Cup

The idea started with a phrase we say in Maharashtra during Makar Sankranti  "til gud ghya, god god bola"  meaning "take this sesame and jaggery, and speak sweetly." That got me thinking: what if sesame and jaggery, the flavors at the heart of this festival, found their way into an ice cream? A sweet you could still enjoy in Mumbai's humid January heat.

From there, I dug into the festival itself. Makar Sankranti is a solar festival marking the Sun's transition into Capricorn, and it's widely celebrated across India as a harvest festival, though traditions vary by region. In Maharashtra specifically, married women wear black sarees and host their own celebrations, exchanging til-gud and good wishes with each other. I wanted the illustration to reflect this regional flavor rather than a generic festival look,  so I brought in motifs like kites, traditional homes, rangoli patterns, and the swirl of jaggery, sugarcane and the sun, all of which are at their peak during this season.
